There are no technical obstacles for the production of biobutanol at the Ukrainian spirits distilleries. Peter Boiko, Technical Director of the concern Ukrspirt reported at the Seminar "Construction of Business in the Field of Production and Sale of Fuel Ethanol", organized by the consulting company FuelAlternative.

"Production of biobutanol at the Ukrainian spirits distilleries could simplify the development of the fuel industry at the enterprises, because it would eliminate the possible non-purpose use of raw materials and their entry into the market in the form of illegal vodka," the participants of the seminar expressed such an opinion.

The seminar was held on December, 12 in Koncha-Zaspa (Kyiv region) and gathered the ideologists of the production and trade of bioethanol. The partners of the event were Ukrainian National Research Institute of Oil Refining Industry MASMA and JSC VNIPINeft. Techinservice (Ukraine), Maguin Interis (France), Delta-T (USA) made presentations of their own projects.

Within the framework of the event, the issues related to the raw material base for the production of ethanol, technologies, just production, storage, transportation and sale of products were covered. The legislative peculiarities, the conjuncture of the foreign market and the prospects for the formation of the domestic market were also covered in detail.

Biobutanol is a kind of liquid biofuel based on butyl alcohol (butanol), produced in conjunction with biohydrogen by butyl or acetone-butyl fermentation of agricultural plants.

Biobutanol has a calorific capacity close to gasoline and is mixed with the latter in arbitrary proportions. Butanol does not cause corrosion, so a significant change of internal combustion engines is not required.
