Ukrspirt will produce biogas

novosti nIn 2008, by attracting extrabudgetary investments, the state concern of the alcohol and alcoholic beverage industry Ukrspirt is planning to implement the production of biogas at 10 enterprises of the alcohol industry with a capacity of 36 million cubic meters per year expressed in natural gas equivalent.

According to Interfax-Ukraine with reference to materials of the concern, in 2009 it is planned to introduce the technology of biogas production at 11 spirits distilleries of the similar annual capacity. By 2011, the concern is planning to implement the biogas production at 32 enterprises with a total annual production capacity of more than 91.1 mln cubic meters expressed in natural gas equivalent.

As specified in materials of the concern, the cost of the plant with a biogas production capacity of 12.4 mln cubic meters per year is 40.5 mln UAH with a payback period of 2-2.5 years. In addition, the concern expects that in 2009 the production of bioethanol will begin at three Ukrainian spirits distilleries, for this purpose it is necessary to attract budgetary or investment funds in the amount of 88 mln UAH.

According to Ukrspirt, the production of bioethanol is currently organized at four spirits distilleries with an annual capacity of 36 ths. tons. In addition, in 2008 it is planned to introduce the facilities for bioethanol production with the capacity of 23 ths. tons in the case of attracting budget funds and 114 ths. tons in the case of attracting investments.

At present six spirits distilleries have concluded joint operation agreements with Techinservice MG LLC for the implementation of bioethanol production. It is expected that in 2008, 160 mln UAH will be allocated for these purposes, and the total annual capacity of these enterprises for the production of bioethanol will be 114 ths. tons per year, while this year it is planned to release 30 ths. tons of bioethanol.

The concern considers it necessary to adopt the appropriate legislation to stimulate the production of bioethanol in Ukraine, which, in particular, will introduce the mandatory use of biofuels in the overall production of motor fuels in Ukraine.
