"The repair and restoration work at the plant is well underway," the Ministry of Agriculture of the republic told the correspondent of Caucasian Knot. "Now workers are replacing electrical cables and are retrofitting the main production sites. Due to the lack of financing, the retrofit of three sites of the plant was brought forward to the next year as well as the interior finish of the premises and the landscaping of the plant's territory."
The correspondent of Caucasian Knot has learned that Chechenstroy JSC and Specialist LLC are engaged in restoring Argun Sugar Mill. The equipment was installed by the specialists of the Ukrainian company Techinservice. It is planned that the plant will produce up to 200 ths. tons of sugar annually.
The restoration of Argun Sugar Mill destroyed during military operations, which was the largest sugar mill in the North Caucasus, began as early as in 2005, and its commissioning is planned for the next year. About 128 million RUB were allocated for the construction and restoration work of the plant.
According to local authorities, launching of this enterprise will not only reduce the price of sugar in Chechnya (currently a kilogram of sugar costs at least 35 rubles there) and provide the population of the republic with a cheap product of its own production, but also solve the problem of population employment to some extent through the creation of new jobs.
It should be reminded that as early as in January, the press service of the President and the government of Chechnya reported that in 2008, Argun Sugar Mill would be commissioned in the republic. At the same time, according to the federal target program, due to the rise in the cost of construction materials, the deadline of commissioning the plant was rescheduled for 2010.
